C02 SequestrationSequestration comes from organisms that use photosynthesis to remove carbon Dioxide from the atmosphere by incorporating it into biomass and release oxygen into the atmosphere. Trees are made up of between 42-50% Carbon a report conducted by NASA shows that trees in the tropics grow up to three times faster than elsewhere and remove approximately 25kg’s of C02 out of the atmosphere a year. CarbonMe base its figures on a 40 year life of a tree. Although trees typically live far longer the majority of C02 is taken out of the atmosphere during growth years. Therefore based on these figures a typical tree in our projects sequestrates 1 ton of C02.
